Un-Pseudo-Naming My Kids
Are you following me on Twitter? Are you on Twitter? If not, you are missing out. On what, I cannot say, exactly; I’ve been using it since January and I’m still not entirely sure, but it is fun. So, join! And follow me! And tell me who you are so I can follow you back! (Follow is such a weird term for this. Don’t worry. It’s okay.)
Now then, why I ask is because if you are following me, you are perhaps aware of my growing annoyance with the use of pseudonyms for my kids here on the blog. And it’s about to change, right now.
You see, I started the fake name thing because I suddenly got all worried that the thing to do when our kids get to be teenagers will be to go to Google and see if their current crush’s mom kept a blog when she was little, and I wondered if my daughter might be a tad bit angry at me one day if the boy she likes digs up all about her potty-training experience.
But I’m kind of over those concerns now, if only because there are soooo many blogs now, that would be a LOT to filter through. And my kids don’t have extremely uncommon names, and I haven’t shared our surname or city here, which will make googling significantly more difficult.
It’s happened one too many times that I’ve been telling a story about my kids in real life and I accidentally used their pseudonyms, AND people I know tell me they read my blog for weeks wondering, Why does she keep spelling her kids’ names wrong? before they figure out I’m doing it on purpose!
All that to say what most of you already know or have heard on a video:
Sariah, Jane:
I feel better already.

I’m glad you did this. It makes me feel better about using my kids’ real names.
