Taming Tooth-brushing Resistance
The Sugar Bugs in Jade’s teeth: Oh, Jade, don’t let your mama brush your teeth! We want to stay here. We like it in here. We like eating your teeth.
Jade, 3: No, I WILL let my mama brush my teeth! My mama wants me to have teeth! Defiantly opens mouth wide.
We actually haven’t had too much resistance to tooth brushing with Jade, but it’s not her most favorite activity, and this kind of play lightens the mood and eliminates the sulky, ugh-mom’s-torturing-me-again act.

Well, let me tell you my way to get kids to brush their teeth…it’s positivily gross, but here goes. You know when we eat, anything that goes in must come out in a different way. Same thing with people, animals and bugs. In other words the bugs will be using your mouth and teeth for their bathroom. So brush well and get them out of your mouth and off your teeth. (actually I cleaned this up a little bit, cause I usually tell kids the bugs poop and pee on their teeth.)

Ick, I imagine that works!
I’ve mostly just talked about how the sugar in food eats little holes in their teeth, but we animate the “sugar bugs” for fun. Turns a boring, even dreaded task into absolute hilarity!
