George, The Bathroom Companion
So Jade potty trained herself and all but lately she’s needed company whenever she has to go, which invariably includes as soon as I’ve finally gotten everybody their food, drink, the “right” fork, etc, and am finally sitting down to eat my own dinner.
Growing weary of all the bathroom trips (and, mind you, toddlers don’t do anything quickly), last night at dinner I noticed the telltale wiggles, so, thinking quickly, I pulled an invisible, miniature person out of my pocket, held it up in my hand, and announced to Jade that this little guy needed to go potty, but he wanted someone to go with him.
She inspected him closely for a minute and I asked her to hold out her hand, which she did, and I “put” him in it, and she merrily trotted off, helped him go potty, wash his hands, and then they came back to the table.
She loved it, so I said, “George says he will be your companion if you ever need to go to the potty too.” A few minutes later, she took him with her so she could go, and I haven’t been invited to go since!
Well, except when she yells, “Mooom, Poop!”
If only I could figure out how to get George to wipe.
