I followed a pattern [almost] completely, (rather than trying to hodge-podge 2 or more patterns together — or even just trying to somehow create with fabric an image that exists solely in my head!) AND I used regular, non-stretchy, non-slippery, non-drive-you-out-of-your-mind-type fabric and, lo and behold, I CAN sew. What do you know?
I used this pattern, Simplicity 2739.
And okay, […]

When the 2-year-old misses her nap, this is the kind of dialogue we find ourselves in around here:
(I’m using my hands to move hardened, refrigerated cookie dough into a freezer-safe container.)
Mom, did you wash your hands?
Mmm-hmm.
Mom, did you wash your hands?
Yes, Jade.
Mom, did you wash your hands?
Yes, I did Sweetie.
(Getting visibly anxious:) Mom, did you wash your hands?
(Still very kind voiced and smiling, […]

Yeah, we are in that stage. I don’t remember it with Sarah — is this one of those blessed cases of amnesia, like how you forget just how uncomfortable pregnancy is, so you’re actually willing to do it again — or did we just escape relatively unscathed (in that area) with our first?
Maybe it’s not quite so hard to be […]

My kids begin helping me in the kitchen before they can even stand properly — pouring ingredients and mixing recipes from the comfort of the sling.
I let them do whatever they’re comfortable doing, even stirring stuff on the stove or cutting with sharp knives (which 2-year-old Jade has yet to want to do. Sarah has gone through […]

We have been extremely lucky that our girls are so healthy. They rarely get sick at all, and when they do, it is always pretty mild and over within a day or two.
I’ve just recently realized all of this, and even remarked to a few friends my amazement about how infrequently anyone in ever gets […]

Today was a pretty good day. I was consciously trying to do a few particular things right, and I think I succeeded.
I spent most of the day sewing but tried hard to pull myself away for things like making meals — on time, BEFORE people start getting their panties in a wad, and helping with sibling squabbles […]

I am so busy, I am moving constantly throughout the day. I jump from one thing to the next without missing a beat, and usually I’m doing at least two or three things at a time. And it’s not necessarily out of need, it’s out of this incomprehensible urge I have to always be GETTING […]

Some thoughts floating through my mind as I drove to Target the other night (Where I spent too much money, by the way.) (Though that has nothing to do with this post.) (I always spend too much money when I go to Target.) . . .
Now that I’m ready to start typing this up, it […]

Everybody should get on Twitter.
Why? I have no idea. It is a little weird. But I’ve been wanting a way to post quick little random updates without turning them into a whole post, and this works. So over there in my sidebar you can see my latest few, or you can join (for free, and […]

We had a wonderful lesson a couple of months ago in Relief Society (the women’s organization in my church) on this talk. The discussion centered on self-discipline and self-mastery. A few thoughts I started working through right after the lesson, and finally realized I’m never going to get around to polishing them off.
I’m publishing anyway — because […]
